Thoughts of hearts and love bugs are swirling around in my mind. For those of you with kids celebrating birthdays around this time of year, or who are looking to celebrate Valentine’s with a party in or out of school, one good idea is to invite the love bugs (ladybugs) in for some special fun!

To kick off your party, send a unique invitation. Make a giant lady bug using black and red construction paper. On one side, write, “Love bug, lady bug, are you red and rounded with black spots all over you? If you look like me, then won’t you come and play at a Love Bug Party this Valentine’s Day?” Provide the rest of the details as well.

Penguins are so popular these days. Many of you probably enjoyed watching March of the Penguins, and perhaps you took in Happy Feet. Whether animated or the real thing, penguins are darling and make a perfect theme for your upcoming winter birthday party. If the theme appeals, here are ideas to help with your penguin party planning.  Oh, and if this is not quite what you are looking for, never fear!  Check out our Big List of Birthday Party Ideas for more great party plans!

The color scheme for this party is easy. Use mainly black and white for your balloons, streamers, and tableware. Add in a bit of bright orange for the beak and feet as well. You may want to cut out orange web prints of beaks and feet, and place them all over the party room. Near the party area or above the front door, you can hang a personalized penguin banner wishing the birthday kid a happy birthday.

Yo ho ho! If you are looking to set up a pirate treasure hunt for your pirate (or any other kids) party, you can organize it in a couple of ways:

For very young children (under the age of 5), simply hide gold coins in your party area, and give the kids small mesh bags to put their loot in! It’s easy and fun. This candy can also be used as the party goody bag.
