While the Super Bowl is a time for the adults to root for their favorite team and stuff themselves with spicy chili, bacon cheeseburgers and wings, don’t forget about the little ones! Celebrations.com writer Lauren DeBellis has the tips for treats (and a few games) that will keep them happy during the big game.
Kids Super Bowl Menu
Kids love finger foods and bite-sized goodies, which is perfect for a tailgate party. The best part about our ideas is that everything can be prepped ahead of time so the day of, all that’s left to do is heat and eat! Use your grill outside or fire up your indoor grill!
Super Bowl Foods to Serve:
- Pulled Pork Sliders
- Mini Burgers
- Mac and Cheese Bites
- French Fries
- Pigs in a Blanket
- Chicken Nuggets
Don’t forget dessert! With kids around, you may not want to wait until the game is over to serve it, so have after-dinner treats ready to go during half-time. Again, keep it simple and prep ahead of time. Cupcakes and cookies with football themes are always the best bet!
Super Bowl Games for Kids
Football Trivia
If kids are old enough, quiz them on the game itself. Start with the rules, team colors and team names. Hand out prizes like football trading cards, or sports bottles.
Pin the Football on the Player
If you’ve got young kids around, get them into the spirit with this take on a classic party game. Draw or use a poster of a popular football player. Then, draw and cut out several football shapes from dark brown cardstock, decorate with white stripes. Blind fold each child, spin them around and have them try and tape the football onto the football player, preferably near his arms!
Outdoor Football Toss
Have the kids line up into two teams. Ask an adult to hold a hula hoop a few feet from each child at the front of each line. The first child has to throw the football through the hoop. Then, for the next child, move the hula hoop another foot back and repeat until the distance gets challenging. Whichever team throws the most balls through the hoops wins.
