Time Capsule

For baby’s first birthday, a special birthday gift that I adore is a time capsule. It is a gift that will capture the special first birthday and will be very meaningful to your child when ~ years later ~ he opens it up to find all of the love, good wishes, news, & perhaps weather report from his first birthday.

You can use anything for the “time capsule.” You could decorate a box or a big plastic toy holder, etc. Or it could be just a thick folder and/or envelope filled with lots of paper memories. Make sure to decorate the container/folder as well to make it festive and decorative.

If you are having guests over for your child’s first birthday party, request on the invitation that they bring something of meaning to that day, i.e. the weather report page, news headlines, movies being played in the theater, and/or at the party you could have all of your guests write a wish for your child that he can open in the future.

As parents, you can add a special letter describing all you feel for him on the occassion of his first birthday and your hopes for him as he grows into a young adult. Also, you could add special toys and keepsakes from his first year, a favorite stuffed animal that he no longer cares much about, a favorite outfit, etc. All of these will mark the occassion of the first year and be appreciated when he opens it years later.

Children won’t remember their first year of life, and so putting together a time capsule for your child such as the one described here will be especially touching and interesting for your child!
